Sepahan thrashes Al Jazira in AFC Champions League

Sepahan defeated the UAE's Al Jazira in an AFC Champions League group stage match in Isfahan on Tuesday. In the match, which was held at the Fooladshahr Stadium, coach Amir Ghalenoei's team defeated Al Jazira 5-1. The two teams observed a minute of silence for the victims of Japan's catastrophic earthquake and tsunami before the game began. Ahmad Jamshidian bagged a brace as the first half ended 2-0 for Sepahan. Al Jazira's Jader Volnei Bare reduced the deficit eight minutes into the second half, but goals by Ibrahim Tore, Milorad Janjus, and Javad Kazemian sealed the win for Sepahan. Sepahan had defeated Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia 2-1 in its opening match. The Isfahan-based team is scheduled to play Al Garrafa of Qatar on April 5

Sepahan beats Traktor to remain atop

Sepahan has defeated Teraktorsazi
3-1 in the 30th week of Iran's Premier
League (IPL) to extend its lead on top of the
table. The IPL pacesetter gained the whole
three points of the away match at Yadegar-e-
Emam Stadium in the city of Tabriz on Friday
to lock up its place on top of the standings with
61 points. Senegalese striker Ibrahima Toure scored
the opener for Sepahan, coached by Amir
Qalenoei, from close range in the 26th minute
of the match. Three minutes into the second
half, Teraktorsazi leveled the game, thanks
to an own goal by midfielder Ehsan Hajsafi,
but Sepahan jumped ahead again in the 70th
minute when defender Mohsen Bengar fired
home a neat header. Ten minutes to the final whistle, Toure
doubled his tally to clinch the victory for the visitors.
